My Favorite AirBnB
On the last night of our trip, we stayed at Plot Twist Books, an independent bookstore in Charleston, WV. It is a deceivingly small bookshop with just four rooms in an old house. They have a suite attached to the bookstore part of the building, which can be rented on AirBnB.com. Part of the “deal” when you rent this AirBnB is that you will receive a coupon towards a purchase of used books while you are there, plus 20% anything you buy over the coupon amount (new books, used books, shirts, mugs, etc.). In addition, I was allowed to choose a book and write a review of the book to be used in the shop.
Those of you who know me surely realize that this was a treat. After we checked in, I left Susan sitting on the bed with a bottle of wine and disappeared into the shop. I purchased “a few” books, which you can see in the photograph below.
My first impression of the shop was, as I stated above, that it seemed small — since it only consisted of four small rooms. Granted, the rooms were full of books, but I was under the impression I would look through the books in about an hour and pick out one or two to bring home. After all, the car was quite full. But I was in the shop for two to three hours, and I could have stayed longer. The selection they have there is wonderful. Some shops with used books have inventory that is not great, with stacks and stacks of books by “popular, current” authors, which I tend to completely skip over. But I got a lot of books that were different, including a few foreign translations.
So, if you are in the area and you like browsing through bookstores, this one is worth a stop. Easy on and off from I64 as well.
