Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument

August 23, 2024

We stopped here on our way from Manitou Springs, CO to Cortez, CO on August 21st. The large stumps you see in some of the photos are redwood tree stumps, which are now petrified. We went on about a mile long trail to look at the stumps and the fauna. There was a mineralogist on the trail giving a history of the area, along with explanations of the many layers in the earth and how they were formed. It was very informative and a wonderful way to take a couple hours off from driving.

Thanks for reading.
